Posted by Vic Okezie on May 12th, 2010 | No Comments

Twitter recently launched a service called Twitter Business Center. According to Mashable, Twitter Business Center will give companies the ability to accept direct messages from any of their followers, regardless of whether they follow that person or not.

This will be especially important for businesses that perform customer service via Twitter as they can get feedback and deal with private customer issues without having to follow the person back.

It has been designed to connect recruiters and hiring managers with candidates by sending Tweets to industry and location specific Twitter accounts at the click of a button.

Posted by Vic Okezie on March 8th, 2010 | No Comments

Today, I wrote about Twitter Hiring Success Stories and when we can start seeing/hearing more cases and scenarios from Hiring Managers and Employers, who are getting actual results from Social Media.

I didn’t realize that Mashabe was analyzing the seeming exact opposite related to Job Seekers via the postHow Job Seekers are Using Social Media to Get Real Results. I like that title and equally enjoyed the post. The rather amazing part was the comments made within the post; real experiences of Job Seekers who found jobs via Social Media, of course bringing into focus the companies they were interviewed, or are now working for.

Posted by Vic Okezie on February 22nd, 2010 | No Comments

Today, Twitter released fresh statistics which shows that users now send out more than 50 million tweets per day. This is huge. Millions of people are having conversations on Twitter, talking about diverse issues, including brands and jobs. As it relates to Social Recruiting, these conversations and happening and will continue, even if a company chooses not to be involved.

This is a major increase from January 2010, when Twitter had around 39 million tweets per day. According to Twitter:

Folks were tweeting 5,000 times a day in 2007. By 2008, that number was 300,000, and by 2009 it had grown to 2.5 million per day. Tweets grew 1,400% last year to 35 million per day. Today, we are seeing 50 million tweets per day—that’s an average of 600 tweets per second.

How to Use Twitter to Search for Jobs

Posted by Vic Okezie on July 10th, 2009 | No Comments

Twitter is the buzzword of 2009.  Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others’ updates, known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to other users – known as followers – who have subscribed to them.

Twitter users post updates on Twitter that are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them.

Companies and job boards are now posting job openings on Twitter, and job seekers can network through Twitter to help facilitate their job search and also retweet the jobs to their followers.

Quite a few sites have recently been launched that are allowing users search for jobs via Twitter. I will mention them here, and will do a detailed review at a later post.

TwitterJobSearch.com is a job search engine that searches Twitter for jobs that match the keywords that you enter. Founded by

JobAngels is a grass-roots movement asking you to simply help one person find gainful employment. It can be a friend, a family member, a colleague or a total stranger.

More and more employers and recruiters are using Twitter these days. Leading companies like IBM, RBS, PepsiCo all have twitter job accounts. Even job boards are using twitter, eg Jobsite.

Many other companies have a corporate presence on Twitter. Users can search by the company name to find them and engage with them.
